and the truth shall make you odd (2019)
When we began making this solo, Zara and I found ourselves in similar moments in time. We were both going through a big transition; Zara was preparing to graduate and start her career, and I was moving to another state to begin a new career. This fact inspired me to consider all of the unknowns and worries that go into making plans for the future and how maddening it can be. This led me to an excerpt from Jack Kerouac's On the Road, and then to this song that a dear friend composed years ago. Humor, tolerance of ambiguity, and an ability to take ourselves lightly became themes in this work. Congratulations Zara! Unleash the madness.
Choreography: Casey Lee Thorne

sonder - project israel (2015)
This performance featured a collaboration with set designer Lisa Boling Huntsman and composer Ben Juodvalkis. The first international iteration of this long-term outreach project, Artistic Director Casey Lee Thorne spent her Fulbright Fellowship to Israel 2014-2015 conducting free community engagement workshops throughout Israeli and Palestinian Territories, to examine the role of dance in self-discovery and community-building. The set design is composed of hundreds of specially designed cards which contain the written reflections of our workshop participants about what dancing connects them to, with translations on the reverse side. These words served as the primary source of inspiration for the choreographic process. The set design is formed in the shape of silhouettes of faces looking towards one another and away, with the center faces joined as one head, to show the symbolism of cultural similarities and differences. This project was supported by The Fulbright Program, Dominican University of CA, Ca$h a program of Theatre Bay Area, and our Kickstarter donors.

INVISIBLE TREE (2015)
"Invisible Tree" is inspired by the Kabbalistic depiction of the Tree of Life. This piece considers the ten sephirot from an artistic perspective, allowing us the creative freedom to ignite our own religious imaginations, and wonder about the ways in which the divine moves through us, and as us, when we dance. This piece was made possible by the generous support of the United States-Israel Educational Foundation and the Fulbright Program.
Music composed and performed by Andres and Liliana Carrizo
Dancing by the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance Ensemble
Machsan 2 Theater in Tel Aviv, Israel
